Brain Science and Neuroengineering

As an emerging interdisciplinary field, Brain Science and Neuroengineering hires principles and technologies of life sciences, neuroscience, and engineering to understand the neural mechanisms of advanced cognitive functions at the molecule-cell-tissue-organ-system-behavior level. By integrating technologies and approaches from life sciences, neuroscience, engineering sciences, materials sciences, computer and information sciences, we conduct full-chain research on the new generation of brain-computer interfaces and brain-inspired intelligence, aiming to reveal the synergic and syncretic mechanisms between living and non-living entities. We also strive to break through the bottleneck of the coupling between the generation mechanism of physical stimulation, i.e. acoustic, optical, electrical, magnetic, and multi-source neural information to support innovative development of basic core devices and systems on advanced neural function detection and regulation. Our ultimate goal is to achieve medical engineering applications in the understanding, improvement, restoration, and reconstruction of the central nervous system, as well as translational medical applications in the complementation, control, collaboration, and integration of the human-machine interaction.
